CoffeeScript on Windows: how to roast coffee?

Russian version

Recently, I started testing of a new interesting language - CoffeeScript. However, I faced with the first problem - how to run it on Windows? Here I describes my way to start a compiler and build scripts by it, Node.js, Cygwin and Nant.

If you have not hear yet, CoffeeScript is a huge pack of sugar for javascript development. Another words, it’s a dialect of javascript languages with tricky syntax constructions, which is translated to regular javascript code in a result. I think, CoffeeScripts can help to decrease amount of routine coding in daily development. The project is under development at the moment, guys have not released a stable release, but it’s ready for playing and thinking about using in real projects.

Codec24Net: a ported Codec2 for .NET

I’ve just ported Codec2 0.1 alpha to .NET just for fun. So, welcome to Codec24Net. (Codec2 is an open source low bit rate codec, which can compress a speech to 2550 bps. More details about it can be found here.)

At the moment, Codec24Net works under .NET 4.0 and can do simple encoding/decoding only.

Released WordLight’s new version with “Freeze search” feature

Yes, a new version of WordLight has been just released!

What’s new in 0.3.0.100:

  • A killing “Freeze search” feature.
  • Case sensetive search can be turned on now.
  • Experemental drawing of filled marks. It doesn’t work well, but I hope to complete it in the next releases.
  • Better performance for searching and drawing marks.

Some details about “Freeze search”: you can freeze up to three search results in special mark groups, that stay during text editing. Freezing is called by next hotkeys (by default): Ctrl+`, Ctrl+1 and Ctrl+2 for three groups. For example: you select a text, and all its occurences are marked by pink color automaticaly. Then you press Ctrl+`, and these marks moved to the blue group. To clear a freezing group just press a hotkey when nothing is selected.

Using VS2008 and WordLight

Visual Studio 2008 has various shortcut keys for text search, which look nice with WordLight add-in:

  • Ctrl+Shift+W - selects a word at a text cursor. I recommend to remap it to Ctrl+W;
  • Ctrl+F - opens a Find dialog and puts a word at a text cursor into a search field;
  • F3 / Shift+F3 - go to a next/previous occurrence of a search text;
  • Ctrl+D - puts a word at a text cursor into a Find combo-box at a toolbar;
  • Ctrl+F3 / Ctrl+Shift+F3 - puts a word at a text cursor into the Find combo-box and go to a next/previous its occurrence;
  • Ctrl+I - Incremental search: waits for your input and searches as you type a text.

WordLight - add-in for Visual Studio 2008

Recently, I release a new version of WordLight (0.2.40). It’s a free, little add-in for Visual Studio 2008, that searches and highlights substrings that are currently selected in a text editor. Moreover, it works for Command and Immediate windows too.
